A New Path ~ First Date Night Outing ~ Menu for Next Week ~ Far Away Photo for Photo Challenge

Hello everyone! Happy Saturday~ or whatever day this finds you! Let's start with last night! I got to go out and have dinner with my husband for the first time in 5 weeks. Woohooo!!! We went to a pizza place which we usually order from and pick up and take home but we decided to go inside. We had a children spaghetti each and these cheesy bread sticks. It was nice to get out. We laughed and enjoyed ourselves. It has been some stressful months for us both. It was a nice time. We then went driving around in some neighborhoods we are interested in looking into for possible future relocation. We aren't in any rush! Like years if it is the Lord's will or not at all if that His will as well. We do like our house but we have some personal safety concerns as our neighborhood has been changing after Covid and we have seen some saddening things. This is a topic for another time. Back to the date night.

We did not realize that our kid spaghettis came with a large piece of garlic bread so we only ate about one of these and took the rest home for lunch today. It was good and I will have yummy lunch later.

On our drive we saw this beautiful shady small walking path and while I would not go to this regularly, I decided to go visit it today for a short walk and to take my daily photo for the photo challenge.

It was ABSOLUTELY refreshing to walk a different easy shaded path and listen to this incredible fountain going.

My photo for the day... The Theme today is FAR AWAY!

Oh, how nice this little path is!!!! It was everything this nature lover needed today! It was a Mood Boost for sure!!!

Here are some more photos of my walk. I "strolled" about 15 minutes.

I love birdhouses!!! I have some put haven't gotten around to put them up! Must do when I am better.

I love cypress trees! They are just so wonderful to me. I enjoy going on boardwalks down in our area because they are surrounded by cypress trees and they never cease to amaze me.

In other news.... I am back to cooking more. Last week's menu went as planned and it was so nice to have simple and good homecooked meals again. We were tired of sandwiches, take out and frozen meals as I have been recovering. I am super grateful for it all, but I am glad there is a little more normalcy with our meals.

Derrick (the hubby) still has to shop, unload and put things up all by himself or if one of the guys is home they help. I am still not able to lift over 10 pounds. I do help put away simple things. In the normal routine of my life, I do this all by myself always and usually Mondays, but that doesn't work for my husband with his schedule. He has to shop on Saturdays, and it is so busy and he also does elderly visits and outreach on Saturdays. So, I decided to utilize delivery or pick up the last two weeks. Delivery has been a terrible experience. We never get all of our items and they don't take time to find substitutions so if I need an ingredient for a meal and they don't bring then it is a hot mess.

So, today we are trying grocery pick up. We do not do this ever because to be honest I like picking my own food out and I like interacting with people. I just know this route will be easier on my husband. He has been doing all the shopping but now that I am cooking actual meals it gets a little more complicated then just picking up basics.

So, I have been planning my menu for the following week on Fridays and then place the order to be delivered (now we are trying pick up) and ready on Saturdays. Here is this coming week menu...

I am going to wrap this post up... but before I go, I finished my nostalgic Strawberry Shortcake and Friends puzzle!

It turned out so cute! So, far I have done four puzzles since May. I have one more summer puzzle that I will start today. After that I will be putting the puzzle board up until the Fall. I don't like to overdo it because I get bored with them and stop for long periods. So, when I sense I am heading that way I take a break.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

With Love,

Chrissy

That puzzle is so adorable! I"m so glad you were able to get out to eat and also that you are starting to get back to just a few 'regular' things. That can make such a difference. Have a happy day Chrissy!

I know that night out was wonderful after not being able to do that for a while. The bread sticks look yummy!
Your walk was beautiful too.
I used to do grocery pick up quite a bit when I was working and it was a good thing. I rarely had issues with my order. I still do it occasionally, but I don't mind shopping. I did find my cost was better with pick up because I didn't have those extra things you see and throw in the cart!

What a lovely place to take a walk. I like to hear the fountain when I walk too by the pond in town. I like picking out my own food at the store too.

A wonderful post Chrissie. Firstly I am so pleased to read you managed a date night - that is great for your morale. Your food looked very yummy. Your photos of the walk are just so lovely - what a beautiful spot you live in. I have never tried home delivery of groceries as yet - I would be worried I'd not get what I asked for. I just love that strawberry shortcake puzzle & it brings back lovely memories. Take care dear Chrissie. xx

Strawberry shortcake is so adorable...brings back memories too. I'm glad you got to go on a date night and get outside too. I know it did you both a world of good. I order all of my groceries on line and don't have any issues. Maybe you could try a different store and have better luck. Take care and enjoy your weekend. I'm so proud of you my friend! You're doing great! Hugs, Diane

It really has lifted my soul!!

I agree. I think I spend less money with pick up or delivery!!

It was so nice!

Julie,
I understand. It has always been a trial and error for me with deliveries. But pick up went really well!

Thank you so much, Diane, for the encouragement. I had a good experience with pick up today from Walmart. I tend have had all my negative with Kroger both with pick and delivery. I just like Kroger's produce so much better and I earn my points to help with gas. But I guess for this season Walmart will do.

As a little girl I loved Strawberry Shortcake!

I'm glad you are feeling better. I imagine it feels good to get back to normal things, like cooking.

The hubs and I had a pizza date earlier this week. The cheese bread looks great!

Oh, I will get you the info for freezer slaw one day this week.

I'm so happy you were able to get out to eat for a date night with hubby! I know that was a joyous blessing for both of you! And I love the place you took a walk! That's really lovely! I also love cypress trees and their knees! We have a lot of those around here. I've never tried grocery delivery or pick up. Maybe if I had to be homebound I would try it, but for now it is our "outing" and we both enjoy going shopping together. We also get some exercise that way inside where it is cool! We go to Walmart usually once a week, and then in the in between times we pick up things at our local small town grocery store. They have pretty decent meats, but I don't like their produce or dairy so much. We also have a Dollar General really close for quick pick ups of bread and milk, etc. I loved your far away picture! This has been fun this month, and I'm so glad you got it started for us! I can't wait to see what you're doing I think you said for September. Fun Fun Fun! Take care my friend. I'm so glad you are getting out and about more!

✨ That puzzle is just too cute! I’m really glad you managed to enjoy a meal out and ease back into a few normal routines -- it makes a difference.
Happy Sunday, Chrissy!

What a beautiful place for a walk. It's lovely to discover new places, I get bored walking the same route each day and they do say that variety is the spice of life. I started doing jigsaws at the start of this year and I got hooked. I've had to tell myself no more until the colder weather arrives otherwise I'll spend the summer indoors, haha.

It sounds like you and your husband had such a lovely evening! That garlic bread looks so good! That looks like a great walk! Fab photos! That is rotten that the grocery delivery hasn't been great. I get my food shop delivered most weeks and it always works out well even with the substitutions. Your meal plan sounds good.

How fun to be able to go out on date night once again. So glad you were able to go out on a hike, even if it as just a little one. Janice

Recovery takes such a long while, even when all systems are go and you're doing everything right. And it is very stressful on the patient and all in their orbit. I'm so glad you two could get out and have such a lovely evening. Your dinner sounds delightful and your walk really beautiful. These are lovely photos. I never was fond of delivery or pick-up during Covid years and it felt good to shop. Maybe, since they are light items and you can drive now, if you have the energy, you can hit the store for just the fresh produce and pay attention to the weight. It might be a little excursion and feel "back to normal." Your wonderful husband can pick up the slack with the other things at the store or do the pick-up/put away!

What a beautiful nature filled walk. I would walk there too. I do grocery delivery and for the most I have gotten what I ordered. I never have done pick up but may try it. I love the puzzle and the menu

I'm so glad you could go for a nice walk and have a date night with your hubby. That will always perk up the spirits.
Since my hubby had a bad fall on April30, we have used grocery delivery from our Super Walmart. It has always been excellent and on time. I usually don't order the produce as its not too great but when in need its perfect. I like the super store because I can order other things besides just groceries.
Love your Far Away challenge photos too.
I took some liberties and didn't actually take the photos for today.
Its just how my brain works sometimes. (:0)

Okay! Perfect thank you

Yes, we had a nice time. I also like to go in the store so much more as I agree it is like an outing for me too! For this season though it has been helpful for us to have the options.
It has been fun!! I am looking forward to doing the photo challenge in September too

It really does make a difference in for the morale!!!

Haha! I love to do a puzzle for each season. Usually, I do not do as many in the spring but summers get super hot here so I do a lot more. It is like wintertime. Both seasons require a lot of time indoors in my area. I love them a lot.

Chrissy T said...

Yeah, it has been this way with delivery ever since it launched in my area. It has been terrible. All of my friends and even neighbors that live local say the same thing and have had the same experience. It makes me feel better that it isn't just me being "negative." LOL!

Chrissy T said...

Oh, both were just what I needed.

Chrissy T said...

I should be nearing the time I can be released from such lower weight restrictions soon I hope!!! So, I will be back at it I am sure.

Chrissy T said...

Thank you! The pick up experience was great. I may try it a few more times but I definitely unless I have no other option will not do delivery anymore.

Thank you, Linda! :)

I actually decided not to take today's photo either. :) I understand!

It's nice that you had a date night. The spaghetti and garlic bread sounds delicious. The drive sounds peaceful. I especially like that twisted tree photo with the trail. Oh, you finished the Strawberry Shortcake puzzle - it's wonderful. I bet it brought back so many memories of growing up. I wish you a terrific July week ahead, Chrissy.
