Well, I have been put on bed rest for a few days as we wait on my scheduled-out surgery in June. They are trying to get my hemorrhaging to slow or stop by me resting and taking medications. So, far it has not worked 100. I need to get my iron up to do the surgery, yet I need the surgery to keep my iron from dropping more. I am in a bit of a conundrum.
Anyway.... it is so funny. Funny in the fact that there were years all I wanted to do was rest and do nothing and now that I am that place, I am anxious and do not like it. Oh, the grass is never greener on the other side, like we think sometimes, is it? LOL!
So, what have I been up to, you ask?! Nothing... truly....
I have been watching lots of shows, listening to an audio book, and sleeping. I am so exhausted. I sleep around 10-11 hours a day at this point.
Just now in the last two days I have been able to get up and cook some basic meals like tacos and spaghetti. I have had to utilize grocery delivery WHICH I DESPISE.
I like dark mysteries as well. This has been a great series. I have been watching this show for years.
If you are squeamish, Silent Witness, it is not for you! This is solving murders from a coroner's angle.
I do not normally sit around and watch so much on my computer. I do not have cable or anything. I watch stuff off my laptop with streaming, but I can't focus on reading. I can't really do puzzles or diamond painting in the bed. So, this is where I am at the moment.
I have been doing a lot of research on perimenopause and menopause. Trying to research foods, supplements and other helpful things to help me during this time and to be prepared for after my surgery. I am pretty overwhelmed. I do not like to be put under. I do not like medications because I have so many sensitivities and allergies. 15 to be exact. Sigh.
I have been watching Dr. Axe on YouTube for perimenopause and menopause information. I love his natural approach.
I also have been watching Dr. Mary Claire Haver M.D. She isn't a holistic natural doctor, but she is very realistic and informational about hormone care.
Anway, not much really interesting in my world, but I want to post for posting sake and for myself. So, I can look back and remember this moment and season in my life.
I am reading and learning more about certain healthy diets and supplements that I believe would be beneficial. I have really let my diet go in the past year due to all the symptoms I have been dealing with. So, I need to get back at better nutrition and slower paced living. I used to be this way when our kids were home and I was homeschooling, but I have lost a lot of discipline once the nest became "empty" or I wasn't responsible for the now young adults. I have not found a daily routine and rhythm without them and schooling, I don't cook as much as I used to, and I fill my days with stressing things to not deal with the fact the house can feel empty and lonely feeling at times.
Empty nest season and then entering perimenopause has been very difficult for me. Lack of sleep, sugar and carb cravings, weight gain no matter how much I walked and hiked, hot flashes and sweats. Increased anxiety and mood swings. DID I MENTION THE HOT FLASHES!!!!!!!!!! The never ending sweating. Sick to my stomach from it. The aversion of meat I have. Constant long 30–40-day heavy periods.
It has not been fun to say the least. Hopefully, there is HOPE around the corner at some point and until then I am going to try to see how I can make it somewhat tolerable by changing some things in my life.
ANY TIPS would be appreciated!!!!
Yes, I am in my late 40's but my grandmother was 39 when she entered menopause. My mother was 48. It has become more and more common for women in their late 40's to deal with symptoms beforehand or even younger.
Until next time....

Oh gosh! That is a conundrum, trying to get your iron up but it dropping because you need the surgery. I hope the surgery comes quickly. Sending love and hugs. It sounds really sensible researching perimenopause and menopause. Take things easy and I hope you feel better soon.
As I mentioned in an earlier comment on one of your posts, I had a similar experience while in my late 40's, and had to have a complete hysterectomy when I was 50. To be plunged into absolutely NO hormones left in my body so quickly was not a happy situation for me or my mental health or for anyone near me! I definitely had to take "premarin" for about 10 years afterwards, and I did not have any bad effects from it. The ones who shouldn't take it are those who still have their female organs intact. But for the sake (and safety!) of people around me, it was definitely a good thing for me to take those hormones! I know there are probably some kinds of natural things to take, but I didn't have time to research it. The effect of having "everything" removed at once created an immediate response in me that was pretty much desperate for help immediately! I tell you this so that you will be prepared for the changes that will take place if you don't have some kind of hormone replacement therapy quickly. Once that issue was settled, I was a much happier and nicer person! I know everyone is different, and your doctor may recommend something totally different...as this was about 25 years ago! (I can't believe that!!!) But don't be afraid to get the help you need for your own emotional and phsyical health and comfort. I will be praying for you as you navigate these new waters in your new season of life. Remember, God is with you, and He will carry you through.
Oh boy, I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I'm not good at sitting either, I need to be moving, so I understand how frustrating it must be for life to feel "paused" at the moment. I hope the time passes quickly and you are feeling well again soon....and yes, menopause is not easy, but there are so many more resources today and it sounds like you're diving into all of them!
I'm so sorry you're going through all of this Chrissy. Ugh! I have been there and know how "not fun" it all is. Once I had my hysterectomy I felt so much better and stopped having issues with anemia. One tip I would share is that as I aged I noticed things changed "down there" in intimacy settings. More dry and painful. I started doing an estrogen cream and it has been my MIRACLE drug these past several years. Also, I take a daily probiotic and that helped other issues I was having too. Praying for you to heal quickly and to feel so much better once you're done with this roller coaster. 🙏🏻💗
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I went through menopause without any problems. My hot flashes just lasted a couple of minutes and they felt good because I'm always cold. :)
Will check out The Other Bennet Sister. Always looking for new shows to watch.
Thanks friend.
Thank you, Pamela. I do plan to ask my doctor to have a game plan for this afterwards.
Thank you, Kim!
Thank you for sharing this. I am also looking into the probiotics now.
It really is good!
I'm so sorry you're dealing with this! I had a knee surgery a few years ago that had me just sitting around and I said the same thing - I had thought just sitting around would be so nice, but when it was forced on me it wasn't so good..
I'm afraid I don't have any menopause advice but I'm praying for you!
PS - I ordered the Prayer book by Courtney Reissig that you talked about a few days ago. Looking forward to reading it!
I love the other Bennet sister and Brokenwood.
I had your same issue and had a complete hysterectomy at 47. Before the hysterectomy they wanted to do a blood transfusion. I resisted ate lots of red meat cooked in a cast iron frying pan. Liver is great if you like it. The Dr was shocked I brought my iron up so quickly. I did do hormones after for quite awhile.but am off them now.

Oh I am the same way; I always thinking lying around having to rest would be wonderful but when faced with actually having to do it I went stir-crazy real quick. TV and movies are only entertaining for so long but I could not focus on reading so I did a whole lot of sleeping instead. Hopefully after the surgery you will be feeling so much better than you ever anticipated... well maybe not immediately after as recovery can be quite something too with more long days of light duty and rest but this will all be worth it on the other side I'm sure. It sounds like you have had a doozy of a year health-wise.
Oh that is good. It is a very simple read but I thought it was nice and motivating to me. It reminded me of things that I used to do and gave me some fresh ideas as well.
That is wonderful!!!! I am not opposed to hormones. I have a had hard time getting doctors to give them to me.
It really has been a hard year for sure in the health department.
Chrissy, I’m so sorry you’re having such a hard time.
I was lots older than you 55-60 when I went through it. It was hard!
My biggest regret is only taking HRT for a short time. There were so many warnings then about HRT and heart health then but the HRT really helped my symptoms.
Now huge doses of HRT are being prescribed for a lifetime for trans people. And if HRT is so risky, why is it OK for their health? I don’t mean this in any political way but it’s a mystery to me.
Yes exactly!
I'm sorry to hear you've been having health issues. I will keep you in my prayers.
