Sometimes It's Just Funky~ Get Cozy & Settle In

Hello, Beautiful Friends. It has been a little bit of a low mood week for me and I have been in the "funky" department. But that is A...OKAY! I know this feeling all too well and this feeling is just that....A FEELING! It will pass. I have had a bit of a busy week at times as well. So, there have been pockets of my days I made sure to be still, decompress, and try to lift my mood with things that always bring me a smile.

Nothing is like putting a pot of homemade chicken soup to let simmer all day. I like to light a yummy smelling candle to cozy up the home while in a funky mood. It is a nice mood booster. I love a cozy and easy heartwarming meal when I feel funky.

Life is really all about perspective, isn't it? I always try to make the most of each day, even if I "feel" off. Some days, I know I need to push myself on and get on up and out of the home or do things in the home to make my mood shift. Some days I know I need to cuddle up and create a cozy and slow haven for myself. I felt that I needed to do a little of both this week. I worked hard at getting out and doing things I needed to do, as well as having productive yet life-giving moments at home that recharged me.

October-December are some of the busiest months for me as a Pastor's wife and also as a leader in other areas of our church, as well as a crisis pregnancy center where I volunteer. I was beginning to feel very overwhelmed with all the things I need to do starting THIS WEEK to prepare myself for the many events and tasks to make those events happen.

I just had a good ole' brain dump session and it was much needed. I can't tell you how much better I felt. I had so much stored in my head and I felt very anxious about it all. I am so glad I did this. It really helped me look at things from a different perspective and create some plans to help me during this busy season.

I love setting a safe, cozy, and relaxing home. It helps me so much to rejuvenate. Journaling is a big part of my life now that I am older. I have tried many a time to keep a journal but over the last two years it has really stuck and I can honestly say I do not know why I didn't make it stick earlier in my life.

I also wrote down different areas in my life and how I am feeling in those areas. I then write TRUTHS about those feelings. The thing is we have to lean on what we know and not our "feelings" most of the time. Feelings can get us stuck.

Setting an atmosphere in our home that lifts my soul is a wonderful way to beat the "funk." I also know that my true source of help and joy is the Lord. He always lifts me up! Prayer, reading the Word, listening to uplifting music, reading uplifting blogs, taking a walk, journaling, watching a movie that helps me unwind, making a brain dump list, or getting out of the house to meet with a friend - sometimes silence is good too. I also love to do random acts of kindness toward others. These are ways that help me in low-mood weeks.

DO YOU LIKE TO JOURNAL?!! What are the things you do or practice to help you when your mood is low?? I would love for you to share!!

With Love,

Chrissy T

I also like soup, homemade bread and a candle burning to make my home feel cozy and brighten spirits. It really does help! I'm not a journaling person, but I do love lists and checking things off my to do list!
I hope your funk is gone!

Oh I just love homemade soup and bread! Once it starts getting dark early and cooler I try to make fresh soup and bread at least once a week. I love those smells simmering all day to help make the day cozy.

Brain Dump, Journaling, List Making, keeping a detailed calendar... whatever you call it, I do it too and on multiple levels - my lists have lists! I find it's the best way organize my thoughts and take away the anxieties of having to store it all in my head. Making yourself cozy with candles and comfort foods is a genius way to decompress and stay focused to rid yourself of a funk. Hope your week is going better.

Now that fall is here and the temps are cooling down, there is nothing more satisfying than homemade soup and bread, maybe with a salad! I've been thinking of having a soup party next month. October seems like a good month for it. I used to journal frequently and I still do but more sporadically.

I love the smell of orange 🍊 — so when I’m a bit down, I’ll put a few drops of orange oil in my diffuser. It feels fresh and lifts me up right away. I also make a daily plan (always with little quotes in it!) — that keeps me steady.

If I’m low, I’ll reach for something lighter: a Max Lucado book, a psalm, or even one new song I’ve never heard before. That’s special for me, since I grew up only singing psalms.

Sometimes I jump into a theology forum — a bit of challenge wakes me up. And today, after a dip, I baked a spice cake with speculaas. The smell filled the whole house and made me smile. Simple things, but they really help.

Thanks for asking this — it made me reflect on the little things that keep me going. 💛

My somewhat journaling is my blog. Homemade soup of any kind sounds good on a chilly day. Janice

I save memes, pictures, cartoons, all sorts of things I find uplifting from the Internet, print them out on sticker paper, and add them to my memory planner every week. It's full of things that make me smile.

Sorry you have had a low mood week. They are the worset but you are right, it will pass.
That soup did make me smile and the bread too!
No wonder you are feeling overwhelmed, you have so much on.
